Millerntor-Stadion

The Millerntor-Stadion is home to FC St. Pauli, and probably the most politically charged football ground in the Bundesliga. Since the 1980s, the club's alliance with squatters and Hafenstrasse activists turned it into a platform for anti-fascist, anti-racist and anti-homophobic politics - the skull-and-crossbones flag, the black-brown-red colors and the 'Gegen Rassismus' banner on the South Stand are program, not folklore. Since the redevelopment was completed in 2015, the ground holds 29,546 spectators across four separate stands right on the Heiligengeistfeld, with an almost intimate atmosphere because the pitch is just meters from the terraces. For visitors: stadium tours run several times a week and are worth doing even for casual fans - the history is striking and the supporter culture makes most sense on site (13 €). Matchdays are proper events and routinely sold out; remaining tickets are usually only available at the official box office on the day. The famous 'Hells Bells' team entrance is one of the most atmospheric in the league. Getting there: U3 St. Pauli or Feldstrasse, both 3 minutes from the ground. Afterwards, a beer on the Heiligengeistfeld or the Reeperbahn.
